Hello, and welcome to another installment of Super Smash Sundays! In these journal entries, I will give you all a taste every week of what I have planned for my dream game, Super Smash Bros. Melee: Masterpiece Edition. Without further ado, lets's go!

Character highlight: Donkey Kong

First appearance: Donkey Kong (1981)
In-game appearance: same like he always has with a gruff, HD touch-up on his fur
Voice clips: either I'm gonna do a new set of generic of gorilla grunts, or I'm gonna actually get Grant Kirkov to voice him. I heard he offered his voice in the original Melee, but turned it down.

Ohhh yeah! He's the leader of the bunch, you know him well, and he's finally back to kick some tail! The grandson of the original DK from the arcade game has always been known as the fast hard-hitter of the roster. It can surprise you sometimes just how speedy he can be! He's so strong, he can lift anyone with ease, and he can spike you in so many ways! Does the first member of the DK Crew even need a buff?!... Well, I'm trying to stay as faithful to Melee's metagame as I can while balancing out fighters, so we'll just have to see. It's a good thing he didn't bring his coconut gun with him; I hear if it shoots you, it's gonna hurt!
...Yeah, got too greedy. :(

Specials:
Neutral Special: Giant Punch
Side Special: Headbutt
Up Special: Spinning Kong
Down Special: Hand Slap
Final Smash: Konga Beat

Up taunt: beats his fists against his chest while roaring (new animation)
Side taunt: shakes himself as if he were wet
Down taunt: looks at the screen, and shrugs with a confused grunt

Notable changes:
+ Donkey Kong is now bigger and heavier than he was before
+ DK can now use his Hand Slap in the air
+ new dash attack that's reminiscent to the one he uses in Smash 4
+ DK can roll off stage with his dash attack to follow up on combo finishers, but be careful that you recover quickly!
+ Headbutt has slightly more spiking ability (not like anyone's gonna use it)
o new ground animation for the Spinning Kong; it's reminiscent to Smash 4, but you can tilt it any two directions you want. It moves kinda like R.O.B.'s Spinning Robo.

Alts:
Brown w red tie: default
Black w yellow tie: alternate costume in Donkey Kong Country's Two-player Mode
Red w blue tie: arcade DK
Blue w purple tie: alt color scheme from Donkey Kong 64, and alt costume from Mario Golf
Green w red tie: genuine color scheme
White w red tie: "Yeti DK", as titled by the Smash director; also an alt from Mario Golf
Yellow w blue tie: alt from Mario Golf
Pink w yellow tie: Donkey Kong Jr.'s color scheme from Donkey Kong Jr. Math

Entrance: bursts out of a DK Barrel

Stage highlight: Princess Peach's Castle

Theme: Super Mario Bros.

A very odd stage, seeing it has one big, obvious wall that's smack-dab in the middle of everything. Yet despite that, it has become a very nostalgic stage to all Melee fans. The castle always has some kooky stuff going on, like floating platforms, buttons that makes blocks appear, blocks that give you items when you hit them, and Banzai Bills that will terrorize the stage every now and then to keep players moving! Now that I think about it...how come they never leave a dent on the castle?! :o An obvious measure to take while recreating the stage is to HD-ify the water, sky, and hills in the background...aaand maybe nerf the Banzai Bills...like alot...

New Trophy highlight: Wynaut

First appearance: Pokémon Ruby version /Pokémon Sapphire version

Trophy description: Awww! What an adorable looking fella'! Would you honestly believe this Pokémon evolves into the cranky-looking Wobbuffet? Wynaut may more than likely be the first Pokémon you hatched from an egg while playing Pokémon Ruby or Sapphire versions because an old lady in Lavaridge Town gives the egg to you. Wynaut like to push against boulders and each other in order to build endurance, and they pick fruit off trees with their earlike arms. That's just too cute, them pushing against each other!

Misc. highlight: items

This wouldn't be a true Melee remake without all the items from the original. Seeing the competitive scene doesn't use items, I figured I'd take liberty by adding a few new items! Here's just a basic list:

• Assist Trophy

• Bumper

• Sandbag (was originally exclusive to Home-Run Contest)

• Unira

• Gold Hammer

• Timer

• Klap Trap (latches on to enemies when thrown, and causes them to flinch with each bite)

• Master Ball

• POW Block

• Pitfall

• F.L.U.D.D. (can be used both for propulsion and to push opponents off-stage, but offensive pushing is very limmited. We wouldn't want our item to be Gust Bellow-OP, would we?)

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Super Smash Sundays! Please watch to stay updated with more. Until then, see ya'! ;)
